I attended the public hearings held 24-26 January, with those in opposition to the Bill allocated to give their presentations on the 26th. Much to my surprise the Bill was approved and forwarded to the Council of Provinces with the note that NO opposition to the Bill was registered. Considerable pressure from the pharmaceutical industry has resulted in the MCC / SAHPRA following a similar approach to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) with creating fast-track systems for drugs to be approved.
